Located on the south-western edge of Gloucester Business Park; Plot 2000 comprises a single three storey office building with associated car parking and landscaping. This new development by Arlington, a pre-let for Ecclesiastical Insurance Office, provides flexible, air conditioned office space, constructed to current commercial standards. The building has been designed with future flexibility in mind allowing it to be split on a floor by floor or part floor basis to meet varying future occupier requirements.
The building is located near to the recently extended infrastructure road giving it a strong presence on the Park. The entrance plaza is the main interface between the building and the Park and provides an impressive and high quality landscape environment, and gives safe and direct pedestrian access to the building. The building is located slightly to the north of the Plot to minimize the distance to local facilities and, allowing for an eastern bias in the location of the building on the Plot, to help to screen the car parking from the entrance plaza. The location of the building away from the western boundary reduces the impact of the building on the neighbouring residential developments.
The Vision was to create a modern and energy efficient building that complements existing larger developments on Gloucester Business Park; this has been achieved. The main body of the building is clad in brick with “punched hole” windows, to ensure a durable and robust building, and to balance the need to provide daylight and minimize cooling. The windows have a regular horizontal arrangement and an irregular vertical arrangement. The vertical arrangement creates visual interest around the building without extraneous detailing – important due to the building being highly visible from all sides. Visual interest is enhanced by the introduction of asymmetric fenestration with feature panels of filmed/ coloured glass and carefully detailed external fire escape stairs.
“… this looks absolutely fantastic and compliments to the team and FSA in particular – they have excelled themselves.” – James Raven – Arlington
