The project is the extension and conversion of a ground floor area of Maltby Police Station to provide a joint facility for the Police and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.
Works include the construction of a single appliance garage and a new training yard and tower plus associated alterations of the existing access routes off Rotherham Road. The appliance garage extension is constructed from external facing materials to match the existing building which include timber cladding and rendered panels. The training tower is made from prefabricated steel and incorporates several features to provide the widest possible training experiences.
Internal alterations have been carried out to the existing building to provide overnight sleeping accommodation for fire-fighters on duty and also administration offices, kitchen, dining and recreational facilities, some of which are shared with South Yorkshire Police. Within the remodelled sections there is separate access control for the police and fire service in order to provide the necessary segregation of some of the more sensitive rooms and spaces within the building.
