A new surgical centre for private sports injury clinic: Fortius Clinic. The project involved the creation of a new surgical centre with pre and post-op facilities and three ultra-clean theatres, across two floors behind a retained Georgian façade in Central London (Bentinck Street). The site sits between two occupied tenancies with their own specific security and acoustic requirements.
Our direct appointment was with Maquet, part of the Getinge Group, who are primary equipment suppliers and the management contractor, however we developed the design for Fortius First Surgical Centre directly with their surgical and management team. There was a focus on high quality environment through careful spatial planning, lighting and materials. The Theatre area uses Maquet’s variop cladding system to provide a long lasting, hygienic and high quality surgical environment.
The patient experience from arrival to departure was a key project driver, as such non-textual way-finding formed an important part of this.
The logistics of construction in a highly sensitive and historic location have informed material choice. Off-site fabrication techniques and the services strategy (routing and plant space) was particularly challenging.
