Having been selected to be part of West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service’s approved framework of consultants, Frank Shaw Associates completed their second project for West Yorkshire.
As part of their strategic review West Yorkshire identified a need for a new fire station in Killingbeck, Leeds.
The new station is located on a suburban site just off the A64 York Road. The site was a disused petrol station adjacent to the main police headquarters, which has required a degree of decontamination, as well as the diversion of foul & surface water sewers and culverted brook.
The station consists of a 3 appliance vehicle bay, a Young Fire Fighter’s facility, a community rooms, admin areas and sleeping accommodation. Externally there is a large training yard which includes a tower and road traffic accident area among its facilities.
Frank Shaw Associates places special focus on environmental considerations, with rainwater harvesting and a 40,000 litre water recycling tank which facilitates hose training being incorporated within the scheme. In addition solar thermal and PV panels, a BMS, LED lighting and a heat recovery system have been integrated into the design.
