Having been selected to be part of West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service’s approved framework of consultants, Frank Shaw Associates recently completed their first project for West Yorkshire.
As part of their strategic review, West Yorkshire identified a need for a new fire station in Dewsbury.
The new station is located on a tight urban site in the centre of Dewsbury, just off Bradford Road. The project involved the demolition of an existing mill and extensive below ground works to in-fill cellars and deal with a culverted water course which runs through the middle of the site.
The station consists of a 4 appliance vehicle bay, a Young Fire Fighters facility, a community room, admin areas and sleeping accommodation. Externally there is a large training yard which includes a tower and road traffic accident area among its facilities.
Frank Shaw Associates places special focus on environmental considerations, with rainwater harvesting and a 40,000 litre water recycling tank which facilitates hose training being incorporated within the scheme. In addition solar thermal and PV panels, a BMS, LED lighting and a heat recovery system have been integrated into the design.
