Grafton Centre, Altrincham

About This Project

As part of a competition for Trafford Council, Altrincham is currently seeing a positive response from their ambitious program of works to help regenerate and refresh its economy & community.

Our ambition was to step beyond the confines of the brief and understand how one site works within and forms part of a whole town centre masterplan. It is critical that a new town centre will have key focal buildings, where the Grafton Centre sits it forms an important role. We presented a landmark building, as a gateway and arrival or end point of the main high street.

With a refurbishment analysis option to revitalise the Grafton Centre to create a ‘live / work / play’ building which links to the market area and Goose Green and a new build feasibility with a new landmark building for the site bringing together hotel / retail / commercial and living spaces.

Both options focused on creating new public centred spaces to fulfil the desired landmark qualities, as a significant building in Altrincham’s skyline as people arrive to the city by car or train.
