This redevelopment of Northway School collocates Fairway School onto one site as part of Barnet’s vision to create an ‘Educational Village’. Working with Kier as part of the London Borough of Barnet’s Primary Schools Capital Investment Programme, the new school provides a single form entry Primary School with a 26 place Nursery, a 72 place Special Needs School with a 13 place Nursery, an integrated 50 place Children Centre and a Crèche facility.
A welcoming crescent shaped arrival area is focused on the community hub and allows for safe gatherings of parents and visitors. The halls, hydrotherapy pool and specialist therapy serve as a community hub around which the single and split level teaching wings wrap.
Courtyards provide secure outdoor space and brings natural daylight and ventilation deep into the plan. Combined heat and power plant, roof-top photovoltaic cells and two 15Kw wind turbines located either side of the playing fields provide 20% of the total energy demand.
