The new pavilion replaces the 1930s original with a new enlarged and purpose designed changing and social hub for the College sports fields and has been re-sited to allow more flexible use of the sports pitches.
More than 25 sports are played at the college by students and other members of the community and the pavilion is also becoming a landmark for train passengers making their way in and out of Cambridge.
Linda Sinclair, Hills Road Principal, said: “This superb pavilion offers fit for purpose facilities and the level of quality that our students have the right to expect; a standard which much better matches the calibre of sporting endeavour that has earned Hills Road its national reputation for sporting excellence.”
The pavilion’s facades and sliding screens are clad with larch and a wide veranda to its front elevation maximise the usable space within the building.
The Pavilion was recently nominated for an award in the Cambridge Forum for the Construction Industry ‘best new building under £1m’ category.
